The Windmill
Rachel stared wistfully at the old windmill standing in the distance. She had come home for the first time in two years, and it loomed tall and stoic, almost a silent observer to the changes that had taken place in her life.
Once, it had been a symbol of the small community she had grown up in, but now it just seemed like a relic from another time. Rachel sighed, her breath visible in the frigid November air.
She pulled her coat tighter around her and shifted her gaze to the empty field next to the windmill. All of the crops had been harvested weeks ago, and the land lay barren, save for the tall, dead stalks that dotted the landscape.
Growing up, this field had been full of life - her father's prized tomato plants, her mother's rows of sunflowers, and the pumpkin patch that she and her siblings had spent hours playing in each fall. Now, it was just a fallow field, a stark reminder of how much had changed.
As Rachel turned to head back to her car, she caught sight of a familiar figure emerging from the old farmhouse that stood adjacent to the windmill. Her breath caught in her throat as she recognized the stooped form of her grandmother, Hannah.
Hannah's steps were slow and deliberate as she made her way towards the windmill, a weathered basket clutched in her gnarled hands. Rachel hesitated for a moment, then quickly crossed the field to meet her.
"Grandma!" she called out, her voice catching slightly.
Hannah looked up, her face breaking into a warm smile as she recognized her granddaughter. "Rachel, my dear," she said, her voice quavering with emotion. "I didn't expect to see you here."
Rachel felt a lump rise in her throat as she enveloped her grandmother in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry I've been away for so long," she murmured.
Hannah patted her back gently. "It's alright, child. I understand. Life has a way of pulling us in different directions, doesn't it?"
They stood there for a moment, the only sound the gentle creaking of the windmill's blades as they turned in the cool breeze. Then Hannah pulled back, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Now, come," she said, "help an old woman gather the last of the winter squash before the frost sets in."
Rachel couldn't help but smile as she fell into step beside her grandmother, the familiar feel of the basket in her hands stirring up memories of countless autumn afternoons spent doing this very same task. As they worked side by side, the years seemed to melt away, and Rachel felt a sense of peace and belonging that she hadn't experienced in a long time.
In that moment, standing beneath the towering windmill, Rachel realized that no matter how far she had wandered, this place – this family – would always be her true home.
I've written many other short stories and scripts, and I'd be happy to provide more examples. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Shares of Revlon Inc. plunged 13% after the company reported a wider second-quarter loss and said its financial troubles may force it to file for bankruptcy.
Revlon, the cosmetics company controlled by billionaire Ronald Perelman, reported a loss of $93.3 million, compared with a loss of $37.3 million a year earlier. The company said it's in violation of loan covenants and warned that its financial woes "raise substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern."
Revlon's shares fell $1.06, or 13%, to $7.08 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The stock has declined 47% this year.
The cosmetics maker's warning echoes comments it made last year about its long-term future. Revlon said in November that it was considering options, including a possible restructuring, as it grappled with a heavy debt load and intense competition from rivals.
Revlon said its liquidity position has been "severely constrained" by higher costs for raw materials and logistics as well as the strong U.S. dollar. The company also blamed weak consumer demand and lower sales volume. It said it may not be able to comply with certain credit facilities in the future.
"The company has initiated an expansive review of strategic alternatives to address its capital structure, including the possible sale of some of its business assets," Revlon said in a statement.
Revlon was founded in 1932 and was long one of the best-known names in the cosmetics industry, competing with brands such as Estee Lauder Cos. and L'Oreal SA. The company was acquired by Mr. Perelman's MacAndrews & Forbes in 1985.
The financial troubles mirror difficulties at other consumer product companies that have been buffeted by inflationary pressures and supply chain snarls. Elizabeth Arden, another cosmetics company that Mr. Perelman acquired, was sold to Revlon in 2016.A 41-year-old Racine woman was charged with multiple counts related to child abuse after she allegedly struck a 9-year-old child with a power cord and threatened to kill the child.
Tasha N. Johnson was charged by the Racine County District Attorney's Office with physical abuse of a child (intentionally causing bodily harm) and disorderly conduct (use of a dangerous weapon). If convicted, she faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison and/or fined up to $10,000.
According to the criminal complaint, on Monday, Nov. 14, a Racine Police officer was dispatched to a residence in the 2600 block of Layard Avenue for a report of a child being struck. Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim, who was crying and had visible marks on their forearm. The victim told the officer that Johnson had struck them with a power cord.
The victim told the officer that they had gotten in trouble and Johnson became "super mad." The victim said Johnson then grabbed a power cord and struck them on the arm, leaving marks.
The victim also told the officer that Johnson threatened to kill them if the victim told anyone about the incident.
The officer then spoke with Johnson, who admitted to striking the victim with the power cord. Johnson said she had become frustrated with the victim's behavior and lost control. Johnson also admitted to threatening to kill the victim if they told anyone about the incident.
Johnson's cash bond was set at $1,000 during her initial court appearance on Tuesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 28 at the Racine County Courthouse.

When Kendall Jenner went to Italy for her sister Kourtney Kardashian's wedding last May, the supermodel wore a show-stopping sheer white Dolce & Gabbana wedding guest dress. Now, she's revealed the inspiration behind the look and said it was an homage to a classic Hollywood icon.
In a video for Vogue's YouTube channel, Kendall shared the creative process behind the dress, explaining that she wanted to channel Marilyn Monroe. "I was really inspired by Marilyn Monroe for this look," she said. "I just felt very like cinematic, movie star vibes."
The floor-length dress featured a form-fitting silhouette with a plunging neckline and sheer skirt that showed off Kendall's legs. She styled the glam look with her hair in a classic updo and soft, sultry makeup. Kendall said the inspiration came from Monroe's iconic looks, especially her appearance at the 1962 Golden Globes.
"I loved that it was very structured up top and then kind of flowed out at the bottom," Kendall said of the dress. "I feel like that's very Marilyn."
The supermodel worked closely with the Dolce & Gabbana team to get the dress exactly right. "We did a lot of fittings, we did a lot of tweaks and changes to it, but I'm really happy with how it turned out," she said.
Jenner's Marilyn-inspired look was a total hit, and the supermodel seemed to love channeling her inner old Hollywood icon. We love when celebs pay homage to iconic fashion moments from the past.

Acrobatic-Clothes248: I would suggest letting it go as there's likely nothing you can do about it. From what I understand the government doesn't require private employers to provide sick pay to casual employees. The best you can do is be a vocal advocate for better worker protections in Australia.
Sachinism: Do you have any record of communication with the manager or HR? Have you tried escalating to HR or a more senior manager about this issue?
The fair work ombudsman may be able to assist with advice if you have a legitimate grievance. However, as a casual employee, the laws may not be as heavily weighted in your favour.
The best course of action may be to ensure this experience doesn't limit your future prospects. Focus your energies on finding a better workplace that values their employees.
flrgx: I would make a complaint through the Fair Work Commission. They may not be able to do much, but it puts it on record.
Casual employees are treated pretty badly in Australia. That's something that needs to change. I'd also consider joining a union.
I'm sorry to hear your story. That kind of treatment is brutal.
alicesheadband: Unfortunately, as a casual employee, you have very few rights. The only recourse you may have would be contacting the Fair Work Ombudsman and seeing if you have a case.
My personal advice would be to let it go and use the experience to find a more ethical workplace. Companies that don't value their staff, even casuals, don't deserve your time or energy.
Boomeranda: I'm sorry to hear about your situation. As a casual employee, unfortunately your rights and entitlements are somewhat limited compared to permanent employees. The Fair Work Ombudsman is probably your best point of contact to get advice on what options you may have.
My advice would be to learn from this experience, and seek out employers in the future who truly value their staff - permanent or casual. An employee

As a leading provider of dissertation writing services, we've had the privilege of working with countless students like Pete, each with their own unique perspectives and approaches to this crucial component of the dissertation process.
What makes Pete's dissertation introduction stand out, you ask? 🤔 Well, let's start by acknowledging the inherent challenge of capturing the reader's attention and clearly outlining the core objectives of a dissertation within the confines of the introduction. Pete's introduction masterfully navigates this delicate balance, seamlessly guiding the reader through the key aspects of his research while maintaining a captivating and accessible writing style.
One of the hallmarks of Pete's dissertation introduction is his ability to seamlessly weave together the theoretical underpinnings of his study with the practical applications and real-world implications. He doesn't just present a dry, academic recitation of his research questions and hypotheses; instead, he paints a vivid picture of the broader context and the significance of his work.
For example, Pete's introduction deftly connects his investigation of the impact of organizational culture on employee engagement to the pressing challenges faced by modern businesses in a rapidly evolving global marketplace. By highlighting the practical relevance of his research, he immediately piques the reader's interest and sets the stage for a compelling and impactful dissertation.
Moreover, Pete's introduction demonstrates a deep understanding of the existing scholarly discourse on his topic. He skillfully navigates the relevant literature, identifying key gaps and controversies that his research aims to address. This careful positioning not only showcases his mastery of the subject matter but also underscores the originality and importance of his study.
One of the most impressive aspects of Pete's dissertation introduction is his ability to strike the perfect balance between providing a comprehensive overview and maintaining a concise, yet engaging, writing style. He doesn't bog the reader down with unnecessary jargon or tangential details; instead, he presents a tightly structured and logically flowWith the world currently on lockdown, many high school and college seniors are missing out on some of the most important events of their academic careers.

An employee
